Hillsborough

The town of Hillsborough is west of the Triangle (Chapel Hill/Durham/Raleigh) and east of Burlington and Greensboro.  It is a little town with a  long history and several streets of lovely, older homes.  Unlike some of the other nearby communities, the growth in Hillsborough has been very carefully planned and limited.  The downtown itself is bustling with new restaurants and shops and the number of writers and artists that call Hillsborough home is quite astounding for a town of this size.  Each Christmas there is an historic home tour and the whole town joins in the holiday spirit with carriage rides and gift bazaars.  In the summer they celebrate Hog Day - another weekend full of festivities and great barbeque!  Hillsborough has good highway access - Hwy. 40 and 85 running along the edge with convenient exits.  Presently there are two high schools, Orange High and Cedar Ridge and a number of middle and elementary schools.  The outlying area that has a Hillsborough address is fairly extensive.  While there are no really large or extremely high end subdivision communities, there is a range of communities to live in and also the occasional very pricey home.

These figures were taken from the Triangle Multiple Listing Service in January, 2007.  There are presently 104 homes for sale starting at $49,900 and going as high as $1,295,000.

Homes running between $110,000 and $250,000 can be purchased in Colonial Woods, Joppa Oaks, Magnolia Place and Wildwood.

Homes between $180,000 and $450,000 can be found in Churton Grove, Fox Run, Grand Oak Estates, Cornwallis Hills, Olive Creek and Becketts Ridge.

Homes between $400,000 and $1,400,000 can be purchased in Hardscrabble and Tuscany Ridge (a brand new community).

Presently homes under $300,000 are selling for an average of $111/sq. ft.

Homes over $300,000 are selling for an average of $169/sq. ft.
